PURPOSE:To obtain an oxygen-containing compound consisting of C2H5OH as a principal component in high selectivity and high yield, by reacting CO with H2 in the presence of a catalyst containing principal components of Rh and Ni and co-catalyst metal, e.g. Ti, Zr or Ta, supported on a carrier, e.g. silica (gel). CONSTITUTION:A mixed gas containing CO and H2 is reacted in the presence of a catalyst constituted of (A) Rh and Ni and (B) a co-catalyst metal, e.g. Ti, Zr, Ta, Nb, V, Mn, Cr, W, Mg, Co or Re, supported on a carrier, e.g. silica (gel), alumina, active carbon, silicate of Ni or the co-catalyst metal or oxide thereof to give an oxygen-containing compound consisting of C2H5OH as a principal component. The reaction temperature is 150-450 deg.C, preferably 180-350 deg.C, and the silicate or oxide of the co-catalyst metal may be used as the carrier and the co-catalyst together. |
