<p>PURPOSE:To eliminate a plate-width fluctuation of the front and rear ends of a material to be rolled at the exit side of a roughing mill, by controlling a roll gap of a vertical mill locating behind a measuring position by using a plate-width fluctuation of the material measured at the intermediate position of a series of roughing mills and a predictive equation of a plate- width fluctuation at the front and rear ends of the material. CONSTITUTION:A slab is rolled in sequence by rolling mills E1-R6 of a series of roughing mills, the plate width is continuously measured in the longitudinal direction by a width gauge 11 placed at the exit of the horizontal mill R3 locating at the intermediate position of the series of the roughing mills, and the results are computed and stored by a width-fluctuation storing device 13. Further, rolling conditions, etc. are inputted from a hast computor 14 to a width-fluctuation computing device 15 to perform a predictive computing of the fluctuations of the front and rear ends obtained by the gauge 11 by using a predictive equation of the width fluctuation of the front and rear ends. Then, the measured width fluctuation is compared with the predicted width-fluctuation by a width-fluctuation preparing computing-device 16 to prepare a width fluctuation at the exit side of the mill R3; a roll gap controlling device 17 computes a roll gap of the vertical mill 4, from said prepared width fluctuation and the rolling conditions of the conputor 14, so as to make a plate-width fluctuation of the front and rear ends of the material measured at the exit side of the horizontal mill R6 to be zero, while considering plate-width fluctuations generating at the mills R4, E5, E6 locating behind the vertical mill E4, thereby controlling a roll gap of the mill E4 by a roll gap driving device 18.</p> |
