PURPOSE:To make power generation possible without delay after the start of operation by forming catalyst layers which are difficult to be wet by electrolyte on the surfaces, facing an electrolyte layer, of a cathode plate and an anode plate, and forming catalyst layers which are easy to be wet by electrolyte on the surfaces of the electrolyte layer. CONSTITUTION:A cathode plate 2 and an anode plate 3 are formed by stacking and bonding carbon fibers, and catalyst layers 2a and 3a are formed on the sides facing an electrolyte layer 4. Catalyst layers 4a, 4a are formed on both sides, facing the catalyst layers 2a, 3a, of the electrolyte layer 4. The catalyst layers 2a-4a are composed of a mixture of catalyst powder comprising platinum, vanadium, or copper alloy, and water repellent powder comprising fluorine resin. The catalyst layers 2a, 3a formed on the electrode sides are difficult to be wet by electrolyte. On the other hand, the catalyst layers 4a formed on the electrolyte side are easy to be wet by electrolyte, and are wet by electrolyte when electrolyte is impregnated in the electrolyte layer. Thereby, steady power geneation is made possible without delay after the start of operation. |
