PURPOSE:To eliminate mechanical damage and optical damage by covering the entire outer periphery of an image carrier with a sheet type protecting member which has wavelength selective light absorptivity and allowing the protecting member to be detached after a processing unit is mounted on a main image forming device. CONSTITUTION:The entire periphery of the image carrier 1 of the processing unit 8 is covered with the protecting member 11 formed in a one-sheet shape and the protecting member 11 is detached from the image carrier 1 by being drawn as shown by an arrow E. Further, the protecting member 11 is drawn as shown by the arrow E and then detached even after the processing unit 8 is mounted the main image forming device. Flexible members such as a high polymer sheet are all usable as the protecting member 11, but this should meet two requirements. Namely, the protecting member is opaque to light in a wavelength range which causes the light fatigue of the image carrier and transparent so as to enable the image carrier 1 to be seen through the protecting member 11 at the time of reception inspection, etc. In this case, a sheet which has filter characteristics which cuts off light of <=600nm wavelength is preferable. Consequently, damage to the image carrier which easily occurs at the time of processing unit mounting operation is securely precluded. |
