PURPOSE:To prevent disconnection of leads during use in a high moisture atmosphere and to improve the durability of elements by covering the leads provided for the purpose of connecting to external circuits thoroughly with coductive layers formed on the surfaces thereof and peripheral sealing materials. CONSTITUTION:A conductive material 8 consisting essentially of graphite is printed on leads 7 provided on a lower transparent substrate 5 (a symbol 2 denotes a transparent electrode), and an upper transparent substrate 6 (a symbol 3 denotes a transparent electrode) printed with a peripheral sealing material 4 consisting of an org. resin on the peripheral part is superposed on the substrate 5; thereafter both substrates are adhered in such a way that the material 4 covers the end surfaces of the material 8 by about >=0.5mm. (hence the leads 7 are fully covered by the material 8 and the material 4) and a liquid crystal 1 is sealed into the space formed therebetween, whereby the liquid crystal display element is obtained. |
