1,186,869. Hydrogenating mineral oil. BRITISH PETROLEUM CO. Ltd. 22 Sept., 1967 [14 Oct., 1966], No. 45987/66. Heading C5E. A process for the hydrogenation of aromatics in the presence of sulphur comprises contacting a petroleum fraction boiling within the gasoline boiling range containing 0.001 to 100% by weight of aromatics and 0-1 to 10 ppm. of sulphur by weight at 90‹ to 400‹ C. and in the presence of hydrogen with a catalyst consisting of from 0.01% by 10% by weight of palladium on an acidic support which is a refractory inorganic oxide of an element of Groups II to V of the Periodic Table containing 0-1% to 15 % by weight of halogen or which is a mixture of refractory inorganic oxides of elements of Groups II to V of the Periodic Table, said catalyst being more acidic than a catalyst of palladium on an alumina support. Suitable supports include alumina plus fluorine or chlorine, silica-alumina, silica-magnesia, boriaalumina, titania-alumina, zirconia-alumina and beryllia-alumina. |
