PURPOSE:To make it possible to continuously record halftone images on a long recording medium by causing ink particles to deflect in the direction substantially perpendicular to the direction of movement of a nozzle when image elements are recorded by moving the nozzle. CONSTITUTION:Halftone images are recorded on a recording medium 5 moving in the direction of Y by an ink jet recorder 8 moving in the direction of X, and at this time 1 image element is recorded by MXN dot matrix by causing ink particles to deflect in the direction substantially the same as that of movement of the recording medium. To charge ink particles, the output of a sine wave oscillator 21 is shaped into a specified pulse width by a clock signal generator 22 divided into the number of ink particles in the direction of N row by a frequency divider circuit 23 and further frequency divided into MXN by a frequency divider circuit 25, and signals corresponding to the sequence of printing of ink particles are generated from a signal generator 26. Then, halftone components of an original image are generated by a photoelectric converter 27 as signals having amplitude corresponding to the level of density and ink particles are charged with such signals which are compared 29 with reference level. |
