PURPOSE:To increase the storage capacity of a system which records information while providing internal block gaps, by adding a preamble and/or a postamble to each data block. CONSTITUTION:On a magnetic tape 21, header labels 22a, 22b,..., and data blocks 23a, 23b,... are recorded together with interblock gaps (IBG) 24a, 24b,.... A data block part with short data length, such as labels 22, has a preamble 31 added before it and a postamble after it so that the length of said data block is longer than the interval between a writing magnetic head and a reading magnetic head. Consequently, even if the IBGs are shortened, said magnetic heads handle the same data block or adjacent data blocks, and the magnetic tape and magnetic heads are positioned easily, thereby increasing the storage capacity. |
