The invention concerns a procedure and unit for use in the agglomeration of airborne ash, and similar extremely fine particles, which are light and very dry and also very difficult to handle, so that the material takes on a more manageable form in the shape of balls or clumps. The fine ash (16) is led from above within a vertical drum (8), and is allowed to fall down into this, whereby during its passage through the drum (where it largely avoids the walls of the drum) is subjected to a water spray from two opposite directions from at least two nozzles (17a, 17b). The nozzles emit thin fan-shaped water sprays (20a-d), and the ash is subjected to repeated water dousings, from first one, and then the other side, so that the ash during its descent through the drum comes to move in a largely curve shaped track. According to the invention, the ash can be given a moisture content of between 5 and 40%. After the ash is made moist in the drum, it is introduced into an agglomeration unit (9) in which the wet ash forms balls or clumps during constant agitation.<IMAGE> |
