956,960. Retractable ball-point pens. R. G. FABER-CASTELL, [trading as A. W. FABERCASTELL [Firm of]]. March 29, 1963 [March 30, 1962], No. 12690/63. Heading B6P. A retractable ball-point pen has a retracting mechanism comprising a push-button pressure member 6 and one or two balls 8 bearing against two slides (developed views shown in Figs. 6 and 7) which are formed with detent notches of varying depth and which are disposed concentrically one within another. One of the slides with notches c and d, Fig. 7, is formed in the interior of the upper portion 1 of the pen casing. The other slide, with notches a and b is formed on the inner end of the push-button 6. A slide member 7 with a lower bell-shaped portion to receive the ball-point reservoir 2, is axially slidable within the push-button 6. An inclined annular face A on the upper surface of the bell-shaped portion forces the ball 8 into non-positive engagement with the detent notches in the slides. In a second embodiment, Fig. 8 (not shown), a spring 3, instead of acting directly on the reservoir 2 as in Fig. 1, acts on the slide member 7 which frictionally engages the reservoir. |
