PURPOSE:To detect the liquid level, the level of the water content of inflow, and the like, by a sensor wherein irradiated light from a light source is varied in response to the refractive index of liquid. CONSTITUTION:The irradiated light from the light source 1 such as a light emitting diode is guided by an optical fiber 2. The incident light is varied by the sensor 3 in response to the refractive indexes which are different for external conditions, e.g. water, oil and other liquid. A numeral 4 is an optical fiber which guides the irradiated light from the light source 1 which is varied by the sensor 3 to a light receiving element 5 such as a phototransistor and a photodiode that transduce the light into electric signal. A numeral 6 is the liquid such as water and oil. A numeral 7 is a container. Since the variation of the refractive index of the liquid can be detected and displayed, the device is effective when the amount of water collected in the bottom of a tank in addition to the remaining amount of the gasoline is found in a gasoline service station and the like. |
