PURPOSE:To make a light weight catalytic converter and at the same time to reduce a cost by a method wherein a sheet metal and castings are used together as a material quality of a container for catalytic converter and they are integrally formed by internal chill process. CONSTITUTION:A part of a container 2 for catalytic converter corresponding to the seal members 3 and 5 and the wire mesh 4 as well as the cylindrical case 2c near the former are of a metal sheet and other parts i.e. the exhaust gas feeding part 2a having flange 6 and the exhaust gas discharging part 2b having a tapered part 7 and a flange 8 are made of cast iron. The upper end of the sheet metal cylindrical case 2c and the cast iron exhaust gas discharging part 2a are internal chilled, and the lower end of the case 2c and the cast iron exhaust gas discharging part 2b are similarly internal chilled. |
