<p>The cutter is used to cut thin layers of wood from a log, for use as veneer. A tool carrier (2) is mounted on a bed (1) and a vertical wood holder (3) is mounted opposite. A screw (8) moves the cutter (4) and pressure bar (5) towards the wood in steps required to give the desired thickness of cut. The wood holder is fitted to a U-section slider which moves vertically on guides (10) fixed to the base structure (11). The guides (10) are at an angle of approximately 20 degrees to the vertical. The wood holder is driven in an alternating vertical motion by a crank mechanism driven by an electric motor (12). The wood piece (15) is gripped by jaws (14a,b) which are positioned by hydraulic cylinders (16). A group of solenoid valves (24) controls the wood gripping and also the transport of material to and from the cutter.</p> |
