Removal of oil from oil-water emulsions

The oil is removed from oil-water emulsions by addition of a stable absorbent. The water is acidified, treated with a demulsifier and absorbent and neutralised. The absorbent is then removed from the water. Spec. the solids and/or oil may be removed before the acidifying and (Al2(SO4) is used as demulsifier and absorbent Apparatus is also described.
