Lactim-o-alkyl ethers prodn. At least 1 mol phosgene and 1 equivalent aliphatic or cycloaliphatic hydroxy cpd. (related to 1 mol lactam), opt. in form of alkali salt or hydrochloride-binding agent, are reacted one after the other with lactam or its hydrochloride pref. at -15 to +30 degrees C. Lactim ether is then isolated. Due to mild reaction conditions no N-alkyl lactams are produced. Suitable lactams include 3,3-dimethyl-3-propiolactam, 4-butyrolactam, 5-valerolactam etc. Cpds. are useful in prodn. of plastics and pharmaceuticals. |
