PURPOSE:To prevent a splashing of seal member by a method wherein a thermal foaming seal material for use in sealing monolithic catalyst purifying exhaust gas is covered by a heat-resistant net material. CONSTITUTION:The net 8 is covered in advance around the outer circumference of an interlam 6. The interlam 6 is stored in a catalyst container 5 while it is wound around near the upper end of a monolithic catalyst 1. When an engine is started to operate, the interlam 6 is foamed by a heat from the exhaust gas discharged from the engine, a clearance between the monolithic catalyst 1 and the catalyst container 5 is filled with the foamed material and at the same time the monolithic catalyst 1 is held at an outer circumference. In this case, the interlam 6 is reinforced physically under an action of the wire net 8 covering the interlam 6 acting as a core member. |
