PURPOSE:To process a picture image data of a multi-mode such as reduction and expansion of a picture image, etc., by generating a mode signal for displaying both a main picture image and a sub-picture image from a mode designating signal generating circuit, and setting a special effect operating time to the minimum when the picture image data is inserted. CONSTITUTION:A luminance signal and a color demodulating signal of a sub- picture are converted to digital signals by A/D converters 1000, 2000, and its outputs are controlled by a sub-picture timing signal 124, and are inputted to field memories 1400, 2500. Subsequently, a main picture timing signal generating circuit 3000 generates a timing signal 126 of a main picture corresponding to a display mode, and a mode designating signal generating circuit 2900 generates a mode signal 125 for displaying both the main picture and the sub-picture. By this signal, a special effect mode read out in a buffer memory 1600, etc. is designated. As a result, the special effect operating time is set to the minimum when insertion of a picture image of a picture image data is designated, and after it has been designated, the quantity of a data of the display picture image area is increased. |
