In the production of certain types of cheese, for example feta cheese, it is advantageous to produce and package a plurality of small cheese pieces together in a common container. The cheese coagulates in or is formed into blocks (1) in a mould (21), with or without a fixed base, of suitable shape and size for a package, and each block (1) is divided into a number of small cheeses, which are then placed together into the package, which can be identical to the cheese mould (21). The device is provided with a cutting box (8) having one or more slits (5), through which cutting plates (6) can divide a cheese block (1) in the cutting box by slices mainly parallel to the base of the cutting box, which is an adjustable piston. The cutting box is additionally equipped to divide the cheese block (1) by perpendicular slices. <IMAGE>
