PURPOSE:To reduce the quantity of a carrier liquid stuck to a transfer material and lower the cost of articles of consumption, by providing a control electrode a prescribed gap apart from the surface of an image carrier between the surface of the image carrier and a charge giving means. CONSTITUTION:When a transfer material 6 reaches a control electrode 14 form the inside of a leading-in part 13a of a shield, the transfer material 6 is attracted to the side of the control electrode 14 and is advanced because a potential of a polarity opposite to that of a corona wire 12 is applied to the control electrode 14, and the rear side of the transfer material 6 is charged to a positive polarity. When a toner image 4 comes under a transfer device 10, the toner image 4 is transferred electrostatically onto the transfer material 6 because the toner image 4 is charged to a negative polarity. In this case, since the transfer material 6 receives a force in the direction where it is separated from the surface of a photosensitive drum 1, the toner image 4 is transferred but a carrier liquid in a non-image part is not sucked. |
