In order to permit reliable, controlled irrigation of the stomach with large amounts of liquid and, in addition, to save the doctor physical work, so that he/she can deal with the patient, there is proposed a device comprising a fresh water tank, a used water tank, a liquid clock gauge and a multiway valve. A first tube leads from the fresh water tank to the liquid clock gauge and from there to one passage of the multiway valve. A second tube leads from the other passage of the multiway valve to the used water tank. The stomach tube is connected to the multiway valve in such a way that it can be connected to the two passages. The multiway valve is designed such that it is in the locked position if it is not actuated and springs back into this position if the doctor interrupts actuation.
