System for inputting and outputting a two-dimensional file in matrix form for a computer, in particular for the case where the two-dimensional data originate from a matrix which comprises M1 rows and M2 columns. R1 x R2 words are repeatedly prepared as a data record (R1 and R2 are positive integers which satisfy the relationships R1 </= N/M1 and R2 </= N/M2, and N is a number of words in the memory of the computer) and as a result all the original data are prepared as provisional data in an auxiliary memory.
