The method according to the invention for quantitatively determining, for example, the acid content of pickling baths, electrolytes or the like, or the composition of development, bleaching and fixing baths in the photographic trade comprises reacting the reaction bath with a reagent which alters its density (transparency) and measuring the change in density densitometrically in order to plot a measurement curve DELTA D/t. The measurement curve obtained shows a typical pattern for the content of active substance so that the content of active substance can be determined by direct comparison with those measurement curves obtained by measuring a stock solution.
