The invention makes available a valve construction, in particular a control valve, for use in an integral hydraulic pump and valve arrangement, which has a housing which can be integral with a pump housing and has a low-pressure and a high-pressure passage arranged a distance apart which correspond to the low-pressure inlet passage and the high-pressure outlet passage of the pump. Provided in the housing are a low-pressure chamber, a high-pressure chamber and a cylindrical chamber, spaced apart and generally parallel to one another. A transverse bore in the housing passes through these chambers; a valve device is axially movable in the bore, the valve for its part having an annular recess between its ends which can connect the low-pressure and high-pressure chamber in a first, neutral position, can connect all these chambers in a second position and connects up only the low-pressure chamber in a third position; a stop device in the housings or in the housing extends into the bore and into the annular recess in the valve part; a stop engagement device is furthermore provided in the recess, between its ends, and a stroke-limiting device extends into the bore and the recess on opposite sides of the stop device so that it enters into engagement with the ends of the recess when the valve part is moved in opposite directions, and limits the movement of the latter.
