The invention relates to a warning light for motor vehicles which is arranged as a reflector (1) which shines backwards with the inscription "Keep your distance!" on the rear of the vehicle and lights up or flashes whenever the safety distance required for satisfactory braking of a more quickly travelling, following vehicle (4) is undershot. A computer (6) determines a value from the values of a speed measurement device (7) and a distance measurement device (9) in combination with the time and permanently programmed characteristic variables (reaction time, braking deceleration, friction, road/wheel) and transmits it to the control device (5) which controls the switching on of the reflector (1) after a desired value/actual value comparison.
