On a track-guided vehicle (F), two response devices (A1, A2) are arranged in each case and send a response signal to an interrogating device (AB) in accordance with an item of information in each case associated with them. The planes of polarisation of the two response signals are perpendicular to one another in this arrangement. In the interrogating device (AB), which can separately recognise the two response signals, the information items can be combined to form a total vehicle-specific information. The response devices (A1, A2) are arranged at such a distance from one another that they pass with overlap through the area of influence of the antenna (AT) of the interrogating device (AB). The successive recognition of the response signals with a different plane of polarisation supplies a criterion about the direction of passage of a vehicle (F) compared with the location of the interrogating device (AB) and thus also of the state of occupancy of the two track sections (I, II) adjoining the section points. <IMAGE>
