In the case of trailers for the transportation of horses, with a ramp (4) which can be swung down rearwards, there is the problem that the tension spring (2) for balancing the ramp weight, together with the rear end (13) of the side wall (9), bounds an opening (21) in which the hooves of the horses are easily caught. If a downwardly directed projection (3) is attached to the underside (6) of the ramp (4), a steeper position of the spring (2) with the dirt sleeve (15) results and the opening (21) becomes so narrow that accidents are ruled out. When partially raising the ramp (4), the lower attachment point (1) of the spring (2) being pivoted about the spindle (12), the lever arm of the spring (2) increases and hence also the action of relieving the spring of load increases and, as a result, the weight balancing of the ramp is improved. <IMAGE>
