The invention provides a through-passage barrier, in particular for protecting children, for doors, staircases and the like. Two lateral, vertical delimiting uprights (4) are provided, between which there is arranged a panel (6) which, by means of lateral grooves (8), is in sliding engagement with sliding guide plates (7) which are welded to the delimiting uprights (4). Each sliding guide plate (7) has at least one spreading slot (11) which runs steeply downwards and diverges downwards, in an oblique manner, away from the associated delimiting upright (4). With each of the spreading slots (11) there engages a spreading pin (15) which runs through the groove (8) of the panel (6) and, on pressing the panel (6) downwards, forces the two delimiting uprights (4) apart laterally and braces them against the side delimitations, here the vertical profiles (2) of a door case, which are fixed to the building. The engagement between the spreading slots (11) and the spreading pins (15) is designed in a self-locking manner. In contrast to the prior art, secure bracing of the delimiting uprights (4) is obtained with respect to the side delimitations, fixed to the building, if the distance therebetween is not constant, it being possible for this to play an important role, for example, when shifting the through-passage barrier from one door case to the other. <IMAGE>
