A rotary shaft 36 is coupled to a rotary shaft 37 by means of cranks 44, 45 and crank-pins 47, 46 which pass through rotary and sliding bearings 38, 39 located at right-angles to each other. In a modification, crank arms 44, 51, Fig. 2, are of unequal length whereby rotation of a shaft 36 produces an oscillating rotary movement of a shaft 53. In another modification, a rotary bearing 56, Fig. 3, is located axially on a crank-pin 55 whereby rotation of shaft 36 produces rotation and axial reciprocation of a shaft 54. In a further modification, crank arm 45 is extended in order to produce rotary oscillation and axial reciprocation of shaft 54. Fig. 5 shows an arrangement in which rotation of a shaft 36 produces rotary oscillation and axial reciprocation of an intermediate shaft 57 and rotation of. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 6, rotation and axial reciprocation of a shaft 60 produces rotation and axial reciprocation of a shaft 54. Fig. 7 shows a similar arrangement in which a connecting rod 62 is reciprocated and rotary bearings 55, 59 are guided in an elliptical path in the centre plane between the axes of shafts 54, 60. In another variant of the arrangement shown in Fig. 6, the rotary bearings 55, 59 are connected by a pivot pin whose axis is at right-angles to their axes. In an arrangement forming a differential mechanism, shafts 65, 66, Fig. 9, carry cranks 78, 79 having crank-pins 80, 81 on which rotary and slidable bearings 82, 83 are mounted, the bearing being pivotally mounted on the ends of an arm 86 which is secured to a shaft 87 slidably and rotatably mounted in a casing 73 which is adapted to be rotated by bevel gears 74, 75. In an apparatus for drawing ellipses, a driving shaft 13, Figs. 11, 12, carries a crank-arm 11 to which a crank-pin 10 is secured. Two shaft halves 4, 5 are rotatably and slidably mounted in bores 2, 3 in a frame 1, and carry crank-arms 6, 7 which are permanently interconnected by a bridge piece 8. A cylindrical bearing member 9 is rotatably mounted between the crank-arms 6, 7 and the bearing 9 rotatably and slidably receives the crank-pin 10. A bar 16 is attached to crank-arm 6 at an angle #, the complement of the angle of inclinationαof the shaft 13, and carries an adjustable member 17 to which a slide 19 is rotatably attached. A tube 20, carrying an ink pen 25, is rotatably and slidably mounted in the slide 19 and is guided by members 21, 22 mounted on a fixed vertical fulcrum 23. |
