1,204,209. Process for the preparation of carbon tetrachloride and phenol. FARBWERKE HOECHST A.G. 24 Dec., 1968 [30 Dec., 1967], No. 61428/68. Heading C2C. The invention relates to a process for the manufacture of carbon tetrachloride which comprises oxychlorinating benzene and completely or partially separating monoohlorobenzene from the oxychlorination products so formed, and reacting the oxychlorination products, including any monochlorobenzene which may still be present, with chlorine at elevated temperatures and pressures to obtain carbon tetraohloride. The separated monochlorobenzene is hydrolysed to phenol, and after removal of the phenol the residue of the hydrolysis of the monochlorobenzene is added to the residue of the oxychlorination and reacted with chlorine at elevated temperatures and pressures to form carbon tetrachloride.
|
