Laboratory fume cupboard comprises a pre-fabricated unit which forms the upper part of the cupboard and contains the upper wall with connector spigot for an extract duct, the upper portions of the side walls and rear wall, the upper front wall portion with (vertical) inlet slots for sec. air, and the front window. The unit is assembled with the separate lower part of the cupboard and only encloses the upper part of the working space. The window may consist of a raisable lower pane coupled to a raisable upper pane (e.g. by a reducing sash mechanism) such that in the down position they just overlap whilst in the up-position they are at the same level behind one another. The arrangement permits pre-fabrication of the upper unit contg. the moving parts, etc. and simplifies installation by on-site assembly with a small number of simple elements forming the lower part. It enables the unit to be suspended on a wall above a laboratory bench and completed with the elements forming the lower part.
