NEW MATERIAL:A p-(3,3,3-trifluoropropyl)benzyl derivative of formulaI(X is chloro, cyano, carboxyl). EXAMPLE:p-(3,3,3-Trifluoropropyl)benzyl chloride. USE:Organic synthetic intermediate, anti-inflammatory, edema inhibitor, where the latter two compounds have a carboxyl as the X in compoundI. PREPARATION:(3,3,3-Trifluoropropyl)benzene of formula II is made to react with paraformaldehyde and hydrogen chloride in the presence of zinc chloride to give a compound of formula III, which is purified to give a compound of formulaIwhere X is Cl. The chlorine group of the compound is converted into a cyano group to form another compound of formulaIwhere X is CN. Then the product is hydrolyzed to give the third compound of formulaIwhere X ia carboxyl. |
