A fertiliser or seed hopper (2) is mounted on a frame (1) and a pair of distribution plates (3,4) are mounted on shafts and have ejection blades (34). The two plates are spaced apart slightly and are rotated in the same plane at right angles to the parallel drive shafts (63,64). The drive mechanism for the shafts includes a set of spur gears (37-40) mounted within a gear box and engaging the two rotary shafts to couple them. The gear box is fastened to the frame of the distributor by coupling plates.
