PURPOSE:To prevent the density of an ink on a mesh roll surface from being lowered due to water, by a method wherein an oleophilic beryllium-copper layer is deposited to the peripheral surface of a steel-made roll, and after subjecting the beryllium-copper layer to mesh working, the entire body of the peripheral surface of the roll is heat-treated to provide abrasion resistance. CONSTITUTION:Oleophilic beryllium-copper is deposited on the peripheral surface of the mesh roll 4 by plasma metal spraying to form the beryllium-copper layer 23, the surface of the layer 23 is polished and subjected to mesh working to produce the recesses 9 and the net form projected surface 22. Then, the entire body of the peripheral surface of the roll is heat-treated to produce a surface- hardened layer 23a, thereby providing abrasion resistance. |
