PURPOSE:To prevent an increment of the effective gap length, by suppressing the occurrence of an amorphous layer with a polishing process using a grindstone after the polishing of a mirror surface with combination of mechanical and chemical polishings. CONSTITUTION:A ferrite core block 1 is polished to a mirror surface with combination of mechanical and chemical polishing. The abrasive grain of the mechanical polishing uses fine powder of SiO2 or MgO, etc. The processing solution 2 of the chemical polishing uses NaOH of HCl, etc. which has an etching function. After the polishing of a mirror surface, the block 1 is polished again by a grindstone 3. Thus a winding groove 1A is formed. Then the core half bodies are set opposite to each other via a spacer and then put together by a glass melt-sticking process. As a result, a sharp edge can be formed magnetically to a gap. This process can prevent the deterioration of the reproducing performance or the recording capacity with a short wavelength. |
