PURPOSE:To detect torque with high accuracy without receiving the influence of noises by providing passages for light to a rotating shaft, making light pulses incident from one end of the light passages, detecting the exit light from the other end, and calculating torsional angles (torque) from the difference in time between the signals of the input and exit light. CONSTITUTION:A main optical path 10 and an incident light path 13 consisting of optical fibers are provided in a hole 16 provided in the central part of a power transmission shaft 5, and further photodetecting paths 11, 12 are provided. The pulse light of a period T2 from a light source 6 enters the path 13 and is partly reflected by a semitransparent mirror 14. This reflected light is made incident through the path 11 to a phototransistor (PT)7. The rest is made incident via the path 10, a total reflection mirror 15, and the path 12 to PT8. The torsional angle theta of the shaft 5 is determined by theta=2piT/T2 from the time interval T and period T2 of the phase difference pulses of the output signals of the PTs 7 and 8. Thus the torque is determined with high accuracy without receiving the influence of noises. |
