PURPOSE:To improve the lubricity and abrasion resistance of the inside surfaces of a mold by coating a dispersion prepd. by dispersing a solid lubricant and a binder in a solvent on the inside surfaces of the mold for continuous casting and baking the same. CONSTITUTION:A solid lubricant and a binder in the form of fine powder are dispersed in a suitable solvent, and the dispersion is coated on the inside surface of a mold for continuous or semi-continuous casting and is then baked. Known lubricants are used for the solid lubricant, in which MoS2, WS2, BN, C, etc. are most preferable. Org. binders such as, for example, phenolic resins, silicone oil and inorg. binders consisting of silicate, borate, phosphate, oxides of metals or the like forming heat resistant films are preferable for the binder. After the dispersion is coated on the inside surfaces of the mold, the coating is dried and is heated at about 100-500 deg.C. It is extremely effective to coat the same after plating an underlying metal or the like having higher hardness beforehand on the inside surfaces of the mold. |
