The catch is for safe and ambidextrous operation of an automatic pistol. It has a barrel and sliding breech and a body with a detachable magazine. The firing mechanism includes a trigger acting on a bar and a pawl controlling a firing pin. The pawl, free from the body, is joined to a thrust pawl at the front of the handle and under the trigger guard with a spring return. This can be worked at will, with either hand. The pawl acts as a drive pawl to arm or disarm the firing mechanism.
