Process of producing ethylidene cpds. with different base bodies comprises reacting easily hydrolyzable derivatives of vinyl- and ethinylcarbinol cpds. such as ethers, e.g. vinyl- or ethinylcarbinol trialkylsilylether or tetrahydropyrane ethers with alkali metals with addition of proton donors in liquid ammonia to give trans-ethylidene cpds. End products may be intermediates for prepn. of 19-nor-pregnane.
