The appts. includes an electrode carrier (10) and an electronic pulse generating circuit (12) connected by a connecting cable (13). A battery may be included in the electronic pulse generator box. The electrode carrier includes a moulded plastics component intended to be put in contact with the patient's skin with several electrodes (16). Each of these electrodes comprises a 1 mm diameter pin ending in a hemispherical surface, such as is used in small connectors. The hemispherical end contacts the patient's skin. The electrodes are placed in the known acupuncture positions by a practician, and held in place by suction pads connected to a vacuum pump. This enables the electrodes to be held on difficult areas of the body such as those where hair causes difficulty. The applied voltage is between 1 and 9 volts.
