To carry out the roll change on roll stands, primarily on cold profiling or calibrating rolling installations for strip-shaped material, tube-welding installations and the like, in which the windows between the parts accommodating the chocks for the mounting of the horizontal rolls are smaller than the diameters of the rolls, a fixed stand housing which remains closed is provided on the driving side, the removal of the rolls taking place on the side remote from the driving side. In this arrangement, an auxiliary frame (19) is arranged on the closed stand housing (1) remote from the driving side. This auxiliary frame (19) accommodates the chocks (24, 25) for the rolls (6, 7) and can be swung down from the stand housing (1). The auxiliary frame can be mounted to swing about a vertical pivoting axis or about a horizontal pivoting axis. The components for exposing the shaft ends supporting the rolls are thus relocated to the auxiliary frame and the stand housing concerned thus remains unaltered in its construction and closed design. <IMAGE>
