PURPOSE:To facilitate manufacturing of a colid-type lead battery by facilitating packing of a highly-viscous gel electrolyte between electrode plates, which is difficult to be performed after the assembly of an electrode group, by packing the said electrolyte into containers before the containers packed with the said electrolyte are interposed between the electrode plates. CONSTITUTION:A high-viscous gel electrolyte 1, which is prepared by mixing 8g of silicic acid powder into 100g of sulfuric acid with a specific gravity of 1.30, is packed into containers 2 made of a porous synthetic-resin sheet. Next, the containers 2 packed with the electrolyte 1 are stacked in such a manner that each container 2 is interposed between a positive plate 3 and a negative plate 4, and the lags of the positive plates 3 and the negative plates 4 are connected with straps so as to constitute an electrode plate group 5. After that, the group 5 is installed in a container 6, and a lid is placed over the container 6 so that terminals extending from the straps protrude from the above lid, thereby completing a colloid-type lead battery. As a gelling agent for such a battery, in addition to silicic acid powder, a pulverized powder of an oxide of aluminum, magnesium, titanium or the like can be used. |
