1277155 Tensioning CREUSOT-LOIRE 7 July 1970 [30 July 1969] 32897/70 Heading B3E [Also in Division F2] A device for continuously tensioning metal strip 1 consists of a group of retaining rolls 3 over which the strip will pass and which when driven will exert forces on the strip opposite to its direction of movement f, a group of driving rolls 5 over which the strip will pass and which when driven will exert forces upon the strip in its direction of movement and disengageable coupling means by which one or more of the rolls 2, 4 of said groups respectively can be individually and selectively uncoupled from its or their drive means while at least one of the rolls of that group remains coupled to the drive means. Between the groups of rolls is situated a planishing unit or a rolling stand 6 or a combination of both. The group of rolls 4 are driven faster than the retaining rolls 2 by a shaft 8 and gearing 7 (Fig. 2, not shown) which tension the strip but in the event of the strip slackening and forming a loop between the roll groups selected rolls of each group in the region of the loop are disconnected from their drive means by a dog coupling (Division F2) and the tension is re-established. |
