PURPOSE:To improve axial flexibility of a fixed sealing element by opening a gas passage to the back end face of the fixed sealing element and urging a gas passing pipe which guides gas fed from the exterior of the machine by means of a spring to closely contact it. CONSTITUTION:A passage 19 which opens to a sealing end face 8 and oppositely opens to a back end face 15, with an orifice 18 interposed therebetween is formed inside a fixed sealing element 15 which is secured by a flange 14 attached to a casing 3. The passage 19 is communicated with a passage 20 which is disposed inside a gas passing pipe 17. A spring means 16 urges the gas passing pipe 17 to make close contact with the back end face 15a of the fixed sealing element 15. Sealing gas is led to the sealing end face 8 via a chamber 22 and passage 20 and 19 by a passage 21 which is formed through the flange 14, thereby defining a minimal clearance between the sealing end face 2a of a rotary sealing element 2 and the sealing end face 8 of the fixed sealing element 15. |
