The apparatus for the transversely axial conveyance of a single-layer stream of bar-shaped articles (7) of the tobacco-processing industry has a first (3) and a second (4) rotating conveyor. Arranged in the circumferential faces of the conveyor are axis-parallel troughs (6, 26), in which suction-air ports open out for the retention of the articles (7). The suction-air ports (8, 27) are respectively arranged in two parallel rows (9, 9' and 28, 28'). The first conveyor (3) possesses in a circumferential portion (a) and offset axially relative to the rows (9, 9') of suction-air ports additional suction-air ports (11) which are assigned means (19, 21, 24) for cutting in a vacuum at least in the region of transfer (17) from the first conveyor to the second. The suction-bore rows (28, 28') of the second conveyor (4) are interrupted in a circumferential portion (b). Arranged in this circumferential portion and offset axially relative to the interrupted rows are suction-air ports (29) which are assigned means (19, 37, 36) for applying, at least in the region of transfer (17), a vacuum which can be cut off. By cutting in vacuum in the additional suction-air ports (11) and simultaneously cutting off the vacuum in the offset suction-air ports (29), the cigarettes conveyed in the troughs by means of the additional suction-air ports (11) on the first conveyor (3) are excluded from transfer to the second conveyor (4) and conveyed further on the first conveyor to an extraction point (22). <IMAGE>
