The invention relates to an apparatus for compressing workpieces made of layered flat material during a heat treatment. The object is to create an apparatus of the abovementioned type which is not only simply constructed and simple to handle, but also makes possible with comparatively little effort compression of layered flat material during a heat treatment. This is achieved by the apparatus having a frame (1) provided with a base (2), to which frame a covering (7) is detachably attached, a gas-filled cushion (3) being situated in the frame (1), which cushion is integrated in the stack (6) of workpieces to be pressed. The cushion (3) is laid on the rigid base (2) of the frame (1) and covered with a planar, rigid plate, on which the stack to be pressed is arranged. Spacing elements are provided in the cushion (3) between its flexible walls. The cushion (3) is equipped with a connection nozzle (13) which is closable gas-tight by a stopper. The apparatus is usable as a unit in a heat treatment device. <IMAGE>
