PURPOSE:To eliminate the contacting between a transparent plate or diffusion plate and a liquid crystal panel and to prevent a mottled pattern from being formed on a screen by forming a fine projection and recess surface on the transparent of diffusion plate on the side opposite the liquid crystal panel. CONSTITUTION:Polarizing plates 1a and 1b have smooth surfaces as their top surfaces. The diffusion plate 2 which diffuses reflected light from a reflecting plate or light from a light source for backlighting and a front plate 3 which protects the front surface as the liquid crystal display surface of a liquid crystal panel 1 are arranged on the top and reverse surfaces of the liquid crystal panel 1 at a specific interval so that the liquid crystal panel 1 is sandwiched. Further, mat or serration working is carried out on the surface of the diffusion plate 2 on the side of the liquid crystal panel 1 to form the fine projection and recess surface which is a roughened surface. Consequently, the diffusion plate 2 or front plate 3 facing the liquid crystal panel 1 and the liquid crystal panel 1 do not contact each other even if deforming owing to temperature variation or external force, and no mottled pattern is formed on the screen of the liquid crystal panel. |
