<p>A pressure cooker is completely closed and the cooking of its contents is controlled by a temperature or pressure sensor which senses the temperature or pressure of the food being cooked and controls the actuation of a heating element. This avoids loss of food aromas and high energy steam through the usual overpressure valve. Preferably, it is the temperature which is monitored by means of an electrical temperature sensor such as a thermistor held adjacent the pan bottom and the temperature sensor is used as part of electronic circuitry to control the energisation of the heating element for the pressure cooker. Desirably the energisation of the heating element is controlled by an electrical switch which does not completely cut-off the power to the heating element but reduces it to a low value once the desired cooking temperature has been reached. The electronic circuitry may include a comparator circuit controlling the illumination of a light- emitter, light from which falls on a photo-resistor whose resistance controls the switching of the heating element.</p> |
