<p>Plastics waste compacting and agglomerating apparatus comprises a vertical cylindrical container 3 with a lid 6 supporting a filling shaft 7 with an aperture 8 and extractor fan 9. Two sets of uniformly-spaced stationary cutting blades 17 are mounted at four places in the wall of the container 3 by support brackets 20. Each of the vertically spaced sets comprises four cutting blades 17 which are cylindrically ground and extend between the cutting planes of three vane-like cutting blades 18. These are rotated by a driven shaft 4, spaced apart one above another, relatively offset by 90 DEG , cylindrically ground and extend adjacent the container inner wall. A further cutting blade 19, having upwardly inclined cutting edges, is secured to the upper end of shaft 4. The underside of each rotary cutting blade 18, 19 is adjoined by a co-rotating vane 21, 22 whose lower edge is flush with the plane of movement of the top surface of each subjacent rotary cutting blade 18. The ends of each vane 22, 21 are bent rearwardly viewed in the direction of rotation and describe a circle of movement whose diameter d is substantially half the internal diameter D of the container. The cutting edges of the stationary cutting blades 17 extend in the direction of rotation and substantially tangentially to the circles of movement of the vanes 22.
