PURPOSE:To prevent scattering of catalyst and reduce the manhour for assembling work by extending the gasket between the upper flange on a catalyst container and the flange of an exhaust manifold to the outer peripheral surface of a catalyst and having said gasket pressed onto the outer peripheral wall of the catalyst. CONSTITUTION:When the flange of the container 8 in which honeycomb catalyst 1 is stored is connected to the flange at the lower edge of an exhaust manifold 9, the gasket 12 installed between both flanges is extended to the inside. As the extended part is installed, being pressed onto the outer peripheral surface of the honeycomb catalyst 1, the exhaust gas which tends to leak from the gap between the outer peripheral wall of the honeycomb catalyst 1 and the inner peripery of the catalyst container can be sealed certainly, and scattering of ceramic fiber having the thermal expansion tendency can be prevented, and further the necessary number of parts can be reduced markedly, and the sharp reduction of assembling processes can be achieved. |
