<p>A separator assembly (10, 10 min , 10 sec ) for an air intake duct (12) for a turbine device for normally removing particulate matter entrained in the air being introduced to the turbine device through the air duct. The improved assembly comprises a separating element (14, 14 min , 14 sec ) for removing particulate matter entrained in air passing therethrough which is mounted in the air duct (12) so that at least a section of the separating element is movable between a separating or filtering position and bypass position. More particularly, the separating element (14, 14 min , 14 sec ) is mounted in the air duct so that when it is in the separating position, substantially all of the air passing through the air duct (12) passes through the separating element and so that when it is in the bypass position, a substantial amount of the air passing through the air duct bypasses the separating element. A suitable sensing device (42) is provided for sensing the pressure differential of the air across the separating element (14, 14 min , 14 sec ) in the air duct (12) and a clamping device (44, 44 min , 44 sec ) is provded which normally clamps the separating element in the separating position. The clamping device is actuable to release the separating element from the separating position to allow the separating element to move to the bypass position when the pressure differential sensed by the sensing device is above a predetermined pressure difference. In this manner, air flow will be maintained to the turbine, even if the separating element be- comes clogged or stopped, thereby preventing a situation in which the turbine might otherwise be starved of sufficient air flow.</p> |
